Facebook Timeline: Custom Images for Apps

by Susan on March 7, 2012

Are you sick of reading about Facebook Timeline for business yet?

I hear ya, but there are so many changes that all of us marketing people are scrambling around trying to make ourselves experts before our clients are.

One of the things that came up as I walked some of my clients through Timeline this week was how to use better images to represent the apps that sit just below the cover photo. These used to be tabs that ran down the left side of the page. You can still have 12, but only four sit “above the fold.”  To best use these four spots, you should choose the most important and move them into the first four places by clicking on the pencil in the upper right corner and choosing “Swap position with” whatever app is in the way.

What we discover in working with the apps this week is that, while you can position them as you wish, the default images leave a lot to be desired.  But never fear!  These, too, can be changed.

How to:

1.  Click on Edit Settings.  There are several ways to get here, but for my purposes here click on the About section underneath your photo, and then click Edit in the upper right corner.

2.  Select Apps from the menu on the left.

3.  Choose the App for which you want to change the image, and click “Edit Settings.”

4.  You’ll get a box like the one above.  Click “Change” next to custom tab image, and upload the picture you want to use.

5.  Presto!

Will you do this on your page?  What other areas of Facebook Timelime are tripping you up?  Leave your thoughts in the comments.
