By now you’ve heard all about the new Facebook Timeline for business pages. What? You haven’t? That’s OK; you can catch up on Timeline for business here.
My biggest question about how Timeline would impact my clients’ pages was what would happen to the custom tabs I built for them. It took me forever to figure out how to create custom tabs that looked better than a 4th-grader could produce, and I was pretty upset to think that all of that hard work and angst would get thrown to the wayside.
Well, I have good news! Your custom tabs haven’t disappeared! They are sitting in the Apps section of Timeline, just below your cover photo.
There is room for up to 12 apps in this area, although only four of them fit in the visible top line area. You can move them around to highlight the four that are most important by clicking on the edit pencil icon in the upper right corner. I haven’t figured out how to change my tab icons to more customized pictures yet, but I have no doubt that will be easy to do soon enough.
You can also still have your Facebook advertising land on a custom tab, which means that all the work I’ve done hasn’t been for nothing!
Have you noticed anything else about the way that Facebook Timeline for business pages works with custom tabs? Or do you have any questions that I haven’t answered? Let me know in the comments, and I will try to track down the answers.
