How to Fix Your Facebook Email Preferences

by Susan on June 25, 2012

Facebook keeps messing with us.

I usually roll my eyes when people complain about Facebook changes.  I mean, it’s a free site; they can do whatever they want.  Facebook users are not Facebook’s customers – we are the product they sell to their real customers, the advertisers.  So, in my opinion, Facebook users should shut up and deal.

But, sometimes, Facebook does things that are so egregious and annoying and creepy that even I get annoyed.  Today was one of those times.

As you can see from the screen shot above, you can select which, if any, email addresses you show on your Timeline.  I usually have my business address listed there, because I figure that’s what most people would be looking for, and I have a great spam filter.

So imagine my surprise when I checked my profile today to discover that Facebook changed my default email address without my permission.

Umm, what?!  Get out of my email preferences, creepy Facebook weirdos.  They changed yours, too.

Here’s how to fix this:

1.  Click About underneath your cover photo.

2.  Scroll down until you see Contact Info.

3.  Click Edit.

4.  Adjust the “Hidden from Timeline” and “Shown on Timeline” buttons the way you want them.

5.  Shake your head in disgust, and write a blog post about it.
